The NIS Rookie

Synopsis

The NIS Rookie Chapter 30 has been released. Exhausted by the monotony of surveillance duty on the desolate Yalu River border crossing, rookie agent Lee Jae-Hyun spent another sleepless night fueling his caffeine addiction as he watched the dark waters lap against the worn concrete pillars. It was supposed to be an uncomplicated life – collect a paycheck, serve time, go home. His privileged position within the National Intelligence Service had been handed to him like a consolation prize, not because of any exceptional skills, but due to a single generous recommendation that seemed to grease every necessary wheel. Yet beneath his detached air lies a despairing sense of purposelessness, stemming from being placed here merely to tick boxes until discharge. As Jae-Hyun drifts through each dull day, lost in thought, compartmentalizing frustration behind vacant eyes, global crises continue unfolding before him. High-stakes diplomatic sessions at 0500 hours don't wait for someone's self-rejuvenation ritual; the tides of geopolitics push unyieldingly forward while Jae-Hyun feels fixed in perpetual limbo. His luck proves impossible to ignore yet haunts him silently throughout each stroke of providence. How long can he convincingly sustain the illusion of 'pure chance'? Behind his far-from-composed exterior is escalating anxiety resulting from unseen traps created by tumultuous events which start seeping quietly deep inside his psyche. Caught between drawn-out reign of passivity born from poor comfort level in direct leadership roles, increasingly entangled circumstances beyond mere coincidence prompt rumors amongst peers questioning whether these mythical coincidences remain indeed unplanned occurrences, witnessing real-life existential alarms flashing all around only remind once again how vastly gulf lies between cursory survival means cast away and worn personal interests tangled secretly amidst temptation kissed keen peace implanted: frequently obscure absolute realms chase transcendent spaces gradually inhabited naturally turning thoughts caustic symphony shining strangers’ super large phrases resembling frowning horse when desired.
